Ordering and Shipment
All orders containing alcoholic beverages are shipped out from licensed retailers. Because of the "three-tier" system (producer, wholesaler, retailer) through which most alcoholic products must pass in the United States, distribution and shipping of alcoholic products can be quite complicated. To help try and create an easier buying experience for our customers, we have tried to break down the various categories of delivery here. All wine shipments require an adult signature (21 years or older).
All orders are processed Monday through Friday 9am-5pm. (No orders will be processed on weekends.) Orders can take from 1-2 days for processing. Orders placed after 1pm Monday -Thursday will be processed the following morning and shipped out of our warehouse the following day. Orders placed after 1pm Friday will be processed the following Monday and shipped out the next day, Tuesday.
Delivery generally within 3 – 7 business days to these states:
CA, DC, CO, ID, IL, IA, MN, MO, NH**, NM, NV**, OR, WA**, WI, WV, WY**.
Delivery generally within 25 days to these states:
AZ*, FL, IN, MA*, MI, NJ, NY
*) Delivery of alcoholic products not available in all areas of these states
**) not all winery products can be shipped to these states
Why is there such a big difference in delivery times?
Reciprocal , Limited Direct Permit, Prohibited States (for Retailers)
The rules for 'Retailers' vs 'Wineries' is more strict in terms of what states we can directly ship to. In "reciprocal" states (states that permit direct shipment of alcoholic products from out-of-state producers or licensed retailers, provided that the necessary permits are filed and the required taxes are paid), delivery is usually accomplished within 3 - 7 business days.
In other states, however, retailers are prohibited to direct ship to customers and must pass through a third party, a licensed wholesaler, and/or retailer before it can be sold--or shipped--to a customer. These states currently include AZ, CT, CO, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IN, MA, MI, NJ, NY, OH, WV, WY, VA. There are also some states that prohibit carrier companies (UPS/FedEx) to directly ship to consumers. (AL, AR, MD, MS, PA, UT, MT, SD, OK, TN, KY, ME). Because bulk shipments to these states of FBWorld's wine shop products are currently sent out only twice a month from California, the delivery time depends on when the order is received in relation to the bulk shipment to the specific state. If the order is received just before the deadline for a bulk shipment, it could arrive as soon as 8 or 9 days after the order is placed. If, however, the order is received just after the deadline for a given shipment, then it will not be sent out until the next bulk shipment (generally 2 - 3 weeks afterwards), so final delivery could take as long as 25 business days.
The good news is that we have created a legal delivery system that enables you to have these fine wines shipped directly to you in states that prohibit direct shipment from California, where most of these wines are. The orders are packed and shipped in temperature-controlled containers to each state, then shipped directly to you from a licensed retailer within your state. The final courier is usually a national company such as UPS or Fedex. Because the products are consolidated and need to move through the elaborate "three-tier" system, delivery does take a few weeks, but we think you'll find these wines worth the wait!
Return Shipments
All costs associated with the shipment returned to our warehouse due to unseccessful delivery attempts will be charged to the customer. In the unlikely event of damages in transit, customers are responsible for filing claims directly with the respective third party transit carrier (UPS or FedEx). Upon receipt of your returned shipment, we will process a refund for the amount of purchase, less third party transit carrier imposed fees. Refunds will be applied to the credit card used at time of purchase.
